Sarah has been doing mosaic professionally for the last two years, however she started doing mosaic as a hobby about ten years ago while living in Australia. She has always loved art and animals and struggled to choose between the two after finishing school. Science won and she pursued a career in biology (doing a PhD in Sweden and then working as an academic researcher in Australia for 10 years). She however stayed creative and got more and more request for her mosaic and her hobby unexpectedly turned into a full time business. She currently exhibits some of her work in a number of galleries across the country and her work is sold both locally and internationally. She learned the basics of mosaic during informal Saturday classes at a studio in Sydney (Australia). The rest she learned from online workshops and tutorials and lots of trail and error. She is inspired by nature and so most of her mosaics are of animals, plants and natural landscapes. She loves mosaic as an art form because of the creative challenges involved in designing, drawing and working with different mediums, textures and techniques. Her main goal is to just do the art she loves to do. Professionally she would like to continue to develop mosaic for her art business. She creates intricate and unique glass and ceramic mosaic artwork. She has exhibited at a few art exhibitions, including Art in the Park (Pietermaritzburg; Second Top Seller (of 60) in 2017, 6th in 2016) and Hilton Festival. She also entered the "This is mosaic art 2017/18" and won gold with "Red Bishops Bathtime" in the advanced class. This was in the contemporary category. I won bronze with "On the ball" in the advanced class. This was in the contemporary category as well.
